BIO

Nidhal CHATTA is a BSc Hons graduate from Loughborough University (United Kingdom). He studied ecology and marine biology and later worked with Captain Cousteau’s camera team, as a diver and a short films director.

He attended John STRASBERG’s Actors Studio in Paris (The Real Stage) and directed 4 shorts including the multi-awarded « LOST HORIZON ». His first feature « NO MAN’S LOVE », was directed in collaboration with Terry FORRESTAL in tandem with Mike VALENTINE, the UK’s premier underwater director of photography.

Nidhal acted as Production Manager and Line Producer on the BBC series « Between the Lines III », the BBC feature « All for the Love of You », the UNEP documentary project « Between Earth and Sea » and Anthony WALLER’s « Nine Miles Down ». Nidhal CHATTA also collaborated as a director with Universal Music and several prestigious advertising agencies, such as Nelson McCann, J. Walter Thompson, DDB, BDDP and Ogilvy.

He was appointed as Technical Director and Project Coordinator by the United Nations Environmental Program, on the MedMPA project, which was implemented in 7 Mediterranean countries (2004-2005) and financed by the European Union.

NIDHAL directed a TV docudrama series entitled « ADPD » on behalf of the Ministry of Interior of Abu Dhabi (2008-2009).

He directed « THE LAST MIRAGE » (2009-2010), a feature film starring Jean-Marc BARR, Elisa TOVATI, and Tunisian actors Abdelmonem CHOUAYET and Hichem ROSTOM.

He produced and directed Zero « ZERO » (2013) a feature documentary exploring the Golden Age of Arab sciences and « MUSTAFA Z » (2016) which relates the nightmare of an ordinary man, a victim of Murphy’s Law ‘Anything that can go wrong will go wrong’ yet who becomes a hero.

He recently directed « BUNKOEUR », his latest feature, about the struggle of a young free-spirited woman, a rape victim, living in a Tunisian society deeply entrenched in its tribal and patriarchal values and beliefs.

In 2017, Nidhal launched the Nidhal Chatta Acting Studio, offering a specialized acting course teaching and exploring how to create characters for screen and television, and moreover, providing a tool kit to perform as a director at each stage of the filmmaking process. Students are shown how to make their performance work best for screen, while developing and extending their mental, emotional and physical range.
