Scriptwriter and filmmaker Diletta D'Ascia during one of her workshops in 2024

Diletta D’Ascia was born in Rome in 1980. Graduating in 2006 with a D.A.M.S. in psychoanalytical film theory (110/110 with honors), she received an honorary distinction at the Pier Paolo Pasolini Doctoral Dissertation Prize for her thesis entitled “The Usignolo of the Catholic Church and Mamma Roma: two texts compared in the light of psychoanalysis”.

In this thesis, she analyzes and explains the rhetorical figure of “la sineciosi” through the principle of symmetry of Chilean psychoanalyst Ignacio Matte Blanco, giving her the opportunity to continue writing various essays and articles on this author. She takes part in training courses and workshops, learning to direct and write screenplays. She also works in a number of schools as an external expert in film and literature and develops film training courses, an activity she continues to pursue after setting up the Gli Utopisti cultural association in 2012, of which she is president. Since 2012, she has divided her life and work between Rome and Tunis, carrying out projects in collaboration with Tunisian cultural associations.

In 2013, she began working on projects on the theme of violence against women. With her association, she intervenes in educational establishments and structures to train students in the cinema professions, resulting in the production of medium-length films. She collaborates with the Centre Culturel Italien Dante Alighieri in Tunis, the Italian Embassy in Tunis and the Italian Cultural Institute in Tunis, and has been involved in training activities in Tunisia since the end of 2019. Finally, she works with production companies as an assistant director and more generally in the field of production. She writes for the Euro-Arab Institute’s magazine “Dialoghi Mediterranei” and publishes several stories with the Giulio Perrone publishing house. She also organizes and coordinates events with publishing houses and film production companies.
